WHO IS THIS KAYE BLEGVAD?
Kaye Blegvad is an an illustrator and maker from London, England and now based in New York. She designs everything in this shop, and makes most items by hand. You can view more of her work here, and read a couple of interviews with her here and here.
WHAT IS THIS DATTER INDUSTRIES?
Datter Industries is a line of jewelry, designed and made by Kaye Blegvad. It began in New York City in 2010, then expanded to London in 2012, and now has tiny studios in both cities, where all pieces are made by hand.
Datter is an endeavor to turn drawings and ideas into jewelry. All pieces start out as models hand carved in wax, which are then cast and finished individually in the studio. The work is intended to show signs of being handmade, nothing too clean or too perfect. The process is part of the product. Inspiration is drawn from all over the place - ancient artifacts, talismans, ritual, the occult, weaponry, and the natural world.
WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH THIS UK DATTER WEBSITE?
Datter Industries has a studio in London with a lovely assistant overseeing orders. Orders placed via the UK website ship from there. The UK studio only produces Datter Industries jewelry. All prints, pins, ceramics, and other items are made by Kaye personally, or are manufactured in the USA, and are therefore only available from this US shop.
WHY ARE ALL YOUR CERAMICS SOLD OUT?
Ceramics are each individually handmade and only in small quantities. New ceramics are added to the shop roughly every month or two, and they tend to sell out very quickly. You can sign up to our mailing list to be notified when new ceramics are listed in the shop, so you don't miss out next time!
HOW CAN I FIND MY RING SIZE?
There are lots of ways to do this. The best thing is to go to a jewelry store and get measured, but that's not always convenient. Next best is to take a ring that already fits, and measure its inside diameter. You can calculate your ring size from this measurement here.
You can also measure the circumference of your finger with a piece of paper or string, but be sure to leave enough space to fit over your knuckle.
I ONLY KNOW MY RING SIZE IN UK / EUROPEAN SIZES!
No problem. You can convert your ring size here.
DO YOU SELL WHOLESALE?
Yes! Most of our items are available for wholesale. However, please note that ceramics and candles are not. Contact us for info and we will send along line sheets!
DO YOU DO CUSTOM WORK?
We’re not currently able to take on custom orders, but with jewelry, if you want an existing piece in a different metal, length, or size, we can usually help. Just get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss it with you.
We’re a tiny enterprise, so please be patient when waiting for an email response. We get to everything as soon as we can, but our inbox is often swamped! It may take a couple of days to get to your message. We really appreciate your patience.
TELL ME ABOUT SHIPPING!
Well alrighty then. All our items are shipped securely and well packaged to avoid damage. In the rare event that something does get damaged in the mail, please contact us and we will work it out!
We unfortunately cannot be responsible for items lost in the mail. Please ensure you enter a correct address where it is safe to receive packages.
HOW LONG WILL MY ORDER TAKE TO SHIP?
Usually we ship orders within ten days of ordering, however as many of our pieces are made to order, please allow two to three weeks for dispatch. Public holidays or production issues may add another couple of days to this, but usually we ship things out much sooner.
If you need something urgently, please get in touch - we'll do our best to work something out.
U.S. orders with a value under $50 ship via USPS First Class Mail. Due to the high number of parcels getting lost in the mail, orders of over $50 ship via USPS Priority Mail. You will receive a tracking number once your order is shipped, and items should be received within 2 - 5 business days of shipping. Express mail is available upon request.
We ship worldwide! International orders ship via First Class Mail, which has a delivery estimate of two weeks, but can take up to five. First class offers the best shipping prices, but it is not insured or trackable. Priority mail is also available, so if you require a faster service or would like insurance, please select that. Priority usually arrives internationally within 10 days, though USPS doesn’t guarantee this timeframe.
You may be charged customs fees or import duties on international mail, and unfortunately these are out of our control and not covered by our shipping charges. We are not responsible for any customs or duties incurred. International orders may also be delayed by customs processing, which again unfortunately is out of our control.
A NOTE FOR UK AND EUROPEAN JEWELRY SHOPPERS
Please note that if you’re shopping for only jewelry, you should order from Datter Industries’ UK website for the best shipping prices and times. If you’re ordering anything else, you’re in the right place!
MY TRACKING NUMBER ISN’T UPDATING! IS MY PARCEL LOST?
Argh! Sorry about that. Unfortunately tracking is handled by USPS (and if you’re abroad, your country’s post office, once the parcel reaches it) and we aren’t able to see any more information than you are! Sometimes the post office doesn’t scan a parcel or updates tracking inaccurately. It’s very rare for parcels to get lost in the mail, usually they’re just delayed or the tracking number hasn’t been scanned.
If an item seems to be lost, the best thing to do is to contact the post office directly. They will have more information than we do! If you live abroad, contact your country's post office.
We cannot be responsible for items lost in the mail. If something does go missing, please contact us and we’ll figure it out.
CAN I RETURN OR EXCHANGE MY ORDER?
As almost all our products are handmade and made to order, we unfortunately can't offer returns or exchanges, unless we’ve made an error in the order. If you have any problems with your purchase, please do get in touch. We go to every effort to make our products the best they can be, and we will be happy to repair or replace anything that should break or be damaged.
MATERIALS & CARE
All jewelry, ceramics, and candles are hand crafted, so please allow for slight variations in finish. We try to keep our work as consistent as possible, but it's in the nature of the handmade process that things will differ slightly - that's what makes it special.
All metals will naturally develop a darker patina over time, as a reaction to the air, moisture, and the wearer's skin. This gives the jewelry an aged look, but if it isn't to your taste, it can also be cleaned off with a treated polishing cloth. If you would like to maintain the bright finish on brass and plated jewelry, it's best to avoid contact with lotions, perfumes and water.
